Urban Sketchers Canberra: Fun Year-End Scavenger Hunt

Last Sunday the Urban Sketchers Canberra had their last meetup for the year. The December meeting is always a bit different as we do a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt is popular as we had a record number of sketchers (I counted 37 people)

The idea is to find an sketch as many of the items on a list that are within a designated area. You don’t have to do all of them but I found it fun. This time around we had 15 items to find.

Since I knew it was a scavenger hunt I decided that I would come with two pre-prepared pages – well since they were the last pages in my sketchbook that was all I could do! I splashed on some water colour paints that were the same side of the colour wheel. I was probably a bit heavy handed but that was the way it turned out. Then, I walked around with a Lamy Joy pen and just went for it. There are lots of very dodgy bits but I had fun and found all the things. I also got a kick out of using the last two pages of my sketch book on the last meeting of the year.

The Sketchbook was a Moleskine Watercolour 200 gsm coldpress paper. It held up very well, the spine is still intact and all pages are still bound firm so I am quite happy with it as a sketchbook. It took what wet media I threw at it and I would happily buy another. (I am not affiliated in any way with Moleskine I am just sharing how the sketchbook held up.)

If you are interested in Urban sketching, the Canberra Urban Sketchers group meet on the second Sunday of the month. Everyone at all skill levels using what ever medium you enjoy is welcome. We often have other informal meetings too so check out what is happening on the Canberra Urban Sketchers Facebook page

I sketched this on location in the tradition of Urban sketchers. Urban Sketchers is a global network of people who draw the cities they live in and travel to. Their slogan is to see the world one drawing at a time. You can find out more from the Urban sketchers website where there is a global directory of groups. If you are interested in finding out more about a group in your town or city check out the Chapter map here.
